In the summer of 2008, I lost my job of twenty plus years. Faced with the current challenges occurring within the US economy, combined with my age, lack of a college degree and not willing to commute for work, seeking new employment did not seem like a viable option. After much consideration, I decided to start my own business providing live scan fingerprinting, notary public and loan doc signing services.
Today, I celebrate my one year anniversary! Looking back over this past year I realize much growth has occurred for me both personally and professionally. I am not rich yet, but I am in the black which is no small thing in today's world economy. I cannot take full credit for the success I am beginning to experience, for without the mentoring I received from Mona Warren I can honestly say that this year may have wrapped up much differently.
I found out quickly that once you start your own business, at first it can be a very lonely and quiet place to be. Using the Skype tool, Mona visited with me daily in my office, which helped me to keep my positive outlook positive. Keeping the right mindset is crucial for a successful business. Mona taught me much about how to market myself. "Order a name badge and wear it all of the time, no matter where you go" Mona would say. I found this to be an invaluable tool, everywhere I went and go, people strike-up a conversation about my company name, giving me more exposure and contacts. Each day as I finished up the daily tasks of cold calling, mailing flyers, etc., Mona encouraged me to get out of the office and make more contacts in the community. Whether it be placing my business card on cars in parking lots, to personally walking into businesses introducing myself and services. I could go on and on about the mentoring ideas Mona offers, but bottom line, what is most important for us entrepreneurs to know that what Mona does creates results! Thank you, Mona!
